Speaker Bios 

Craig D. Cox, Pharm.D., BCPS

Dr. Craig D. Cox is an Associate Professor of Pharmacy Practice and Vice Chair of Experiential Programs at Texas Tech University Health Sciences Center School of Pharmacy (TTUHSC SOP) in Lubbock, Texas. He received his Pharm.D. from Washington State University in 1999 and then completed a Critical Care Specialty Residency at TTUHSC SOP in 2000. As a faculty member since 2000, Cox has taught in multiple pharmacotherapy and case studies courses and has served as director of the Pharmacotherapy Residency Program from 2005-2009.  He has been a member of a diversity of committees, including chair of both the continuing education and curricular affairs committees. As a member of the Texas Pharmacy Congress, Cox serves on the Joint Commission of Internship Programs meeting quarterly to discuss issues related to experiential education in the State of Texas. Since 2005 as Vice Chair of Experiential Programs, he has been responsible for six staff members and coordination of IPPE and APPE rotations across 4 distant campuses. He has played an integral role in transitioning rotation assessments from a paper-based to an electronic system at his institution.  

Lori J. Duke, Pharm.D.

Dr. Lori J. Duke graduated from the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill with a Doctor of Pharmacy degree in 1989. She completed a specialty residency in critical care pharmacy at The Medical College of Virginia Hospitals in Richmond, Virginia. Following her residency, Duke completed a two year fellowship in critical care pharmacy at The Medical College of Virginia/Virginia Commonwealth University in Richmond, Virginia. 

In 1992, Duke joined the faculty at The University of Texas College of Pharmacy. Her primary location was at the satellite campus at The University of Texas Health Science Center in San Antonio. She held the title of Clinical Assistant Professor at The University of Texas and The University of Texas Health Science Center in San Antonio. In 1997, Duke became Director of Experience Programs at The University of Georgia College of Pharmacy in Athens, Georgia. She was promoted to Assistant Dean of Experience Programs in 2001. Duke currently leads an experiential division of 10 faculty and 3.5 staff members.

Duke was a founding member of the Southeastern Pharmacy Experiential Education Consortium (SPEEC) and led this group from 2003-2006. She continues to be an active member of this group. 

Rick Jakeman, Ed.D.

Dr. Rick Jakeman is program director and assistant professor of higher education administration at the George Washington University. Jakeman’s research interests focus on college student experiences, including graduate student socialization and undergraduate student alcohol and other drug use. His largest body of research stems from a national survey of student experiences at off-campus parties. Former positions include both administrative and academic roles, including seven years as a student affairs practitioner in the area of leadership and volunteer development. Prior studies on undergraduate student alcohol and other drug use include investigation of how various sub-cultures of the college campus experience off-campus parties at a large urban institution.


Dwayne Todd, M.Div.

Dwayne Todd currently serves as the Vice President for Student Affairs at the Columbus College of Art and Design (CCAD), where he has worked since 2001. In his current position, he provides senior leadership to the areas of residence life, student activities and events, safety and security, counseling services, career services, entrepreneurship programs, academic support services, disability services, campus dining services, judicial affairs, orientation/new student programs, and student insurance programs. He also serves as a member of the President’s Cabinet. Todd previously served in various Student Affairs roles at Texas Christian University in Fort Worth, Texas, and was the Assistant Chair of the MBA at Franklin University in Columbus, Ohio. Among these institutions, his career in higher education spans 18 years of work in multiple areas of higher education administration.

Todd received a Bachelor of Music from Samford University in Birmingham, Ala., and a Master of Divinity from Southwestern Theological Seminary in Fort Worth, Texas.  He is currently completing his Ph.D. in Higher Education Administration at The Ohio State University. 

 

Whitney L. Unterwagner, Pharm.D.

Dr. Whitney L. Unterwagner did her pre-pharmacy course-work at Virginia Tech and received her Pharm.D from Virginia Commonwealth University/Medical College of Virginia Campus in Richmond, Va. Unterwagner stayed on at VCU/MCV to complete a residency in Community Pharmacy Practice.  Unterwagner was on faculty at Mercer University College of Pharmacy and Health Sciences from 2000-2008 and served as the Director of Experiential Education for 6 years. In July 2008, Unterwagner joined the faculty at The University of Georgia College of Pharmacy as a Director of Introductory Pharmacy Practice Experiences for the Office of Experience Programs.
