Specialty Pharmaceuticals Webinar

Topic: Working Successfully with Emerging Technologies and Innovations

Join us to learn how to discover and pilot innovations, structure incubator models, and set up a technology portfolio that includes transformative innovation.

Continuously innovating and transforming our current practices is critical to keep pace with teaching and learning as it evolves. While there is no shortage of candidate innovations, the process by which to discover them, to select them for pilots, and to consider full-scale implementation, can be challenging. How should incubator models be structured? What should be the goals of innovation within our technology portfolios? How should we select technologies to pilot? What processes or rubrics are effective in pilots?

Presenter: Veronica Diaz, Ph.D., Associate Director, EDUCAUSE Learning Initiative

Veronica is the Director for EDUCAUSE online programs and ELI online portfolio which advance the Teaching, Learning, and Professional Development Department’s overall strategic priorities and serves member needs with excellence in online learning experiences. This includes program design and creation, program delivery, and advising senior leadership on methods for improving or enhancing member engagement and aligning services with member needs. Veronica has also been the associate director of the EDUCAUSE Learning Initiative since 2009 conceptualizing and developing resources that support its 300+ member institutions in integrating teaching, learning, and technology on campus. She provides leadership to various ELI programs: Seeking Evidence of Impact and the 7 Things You Should Know About series and management for EDUCAUSE teaching and learning activities, such as ensuring appropriate participation in regional events and coordination/support of other groups, such as Next Generation Learning Challenges. Prior to her position at ELI, Veronica supported and led learning technologies and faculty development initiatives at the Maricopa Community College Center for Learning and Instruction serving its 10-college system. While at Maricopa, she served as co-principal investigator for Maricopa’s Technological Literacy National Science Foundation grant, as co-chair to the Instructional Technology Leadership Council responsible for directing the Maricopa Community Colleges’ learning technology strategic plan, and managed the district-wide Teaching and Learning with Technology Grants Program supporting research and development in the areas of emerging technologies, assessment of online learning, and blended learning. Active in the field of online and blended learning and instructional innovation, Diaz serves on various national teaching and learning advisory boards, presents seminars nationally, and has authored several articles on faculty use of instructional technology, blended learning delivery models, intellectual property policies for distributed learning environments, privacy, and emerging technologies.

Topic: How Do We Measure Effectiveness In Mobile Learning Environments?

Review measurement strategies and proven institutional examples of mobility’s potential for content delivery, student collaboration, and community building. 

The EDUCAUSE Learning Initiative has been collecting research on research on mobile technologies’ potential to engage students and enhance learning. We’ll review the teaching and learning community’s findings and proven institutional examples of mobility’s potential in the areas of content delivery, student collaboration, and community building. We’ll also share strategies and methodologies to help measure the impact of mobile tools on teaching and learning. Throughout the session, we’ll engage participants on these questions: What would be the ramifications and opportunities for learning if this technology were adopted? What kinds of teaching and learning engagements might this technology: make better or enable? If we decide to do a pilot, what kind of evaluation methodology can we overlay on the project to assess outcomes? What kind of additional research needs to be done concerning this technology (student)?

The MOOC in Review: Contributions to Teaching and Learning

Over the past year, the massive open online course (MOOC) has emerged as a significantly different course model in higher education. So, what have we learned about the MOOC and its potential to support learning? In this webinar, we will review examples of how the MOOC is being utilized along with several related issues: implementation and deployment approaches; student success data; MOOC innovations; financial models; connections to traditional programs; and future developments.


At the conclusion of the webinar, participants should be able to:

  • Describe current practice and implementations of MOOCs
  • Describe current and future evolutions of the MOOC model 
  • Access current information on research, cases, and data related to MOOCs
