Chair-elect

David G. Fuentes

School of Pharmacy
Pacific University Oregon

David Fuentes, Pharm.D., is an assistant dean for academics and assessment and associate professor at the Pacific University Oregon School of Pharmacy, where he educates students across various professions, including pharmacy, psychology, healthcare administration, physician assistants, and nursing. He has been an active member of AACP since he joined in 2004 and has been involved with the CPE/D section since 2009, assisting the section in planning and speaking at annual meetings in the areas of active learning and self-evaluation/reflection, developing roundtable sessions, and serving on the nominations and programming sub-committees. Dr. Fuentes has also been active in several other SIGs and sections and has helped develop programming with the theme of continuous professional development across these SIGs. He also serves as a consultant and executive coach in the areas of organizational health for various institutions and in several industries.

Dr. Fuentes received his Pharm.D. from the University of the Pacific at Thomas J. Long School of Pharmacy and Health Sciences in California. He completed a pharmacy practice residency in 2004. Dr. Fuentes earned certifications in psychiatry and geriatrics, as well as certifications in strengths-based coaching from Gallup and six-sigma/lean systems. He is enrolled in a M.S. program in organizational leadership at Southern New Hampshire University.

Dr. Fuentes has published internal newsletters/publications in the area of mentorship and continuous professional development, and peer-reviewed publications in the area of active learning, teaching innovations, and assessment. He has served as a field reviewer for institutional CE programs since 2014.

James S. Wheeler

School of Pharmacy
The University of Tennessee

James S. Wheeler, Pharm.D,. is an assistant professor of clinical pharmacy and translational science and serves as the director of continuing professional development for The University of Tennessee College of Pharmacy. He has been an active member of AACP since joining in 2010 and has been involved in the CPD section since 2015, to include developing programming, presenting abstracts, and serving as a committee chair.

Dr. Wheeler received his B.S. from The University of Tennessee Chattanooga and his Pharm.D. from The University of Tennessee Health Science Center. He completed a 24-month residency in pharmacotherapy in 2013.

Dr. Wheeler’s research interests include CPD, medication safety, and workforce development. He has published peer-reviewed manuscripts in the areas of continuing professional development, medication safety, and the scholarship of teaching and learning. He currently serves as a co-investigator on a grant researching current and future roles of pharmacy technicians in the workforce. Prior to his current position, he was a faculty member at Wingate University School of Pharmacy and maintained an internal medicine pharmacy practice.

Dr. Wheeler has served in leadership roles in the Tennessee Pharmacists Association and serves as faculty advisor to the student chapter of the state pharmacy association. He teaches drug information and medication safety in the curriculum and maintains a part-time clinical practice in a student run free clinic.
