What is the regional leadership workshop, Leading Forward?

Leading Forward is an opportunity for leaders at all levels to delve more deeply into a specific leadership topic. In November, the focus will be adaptive leadership, led by Todd Sorensen. At Leading Forward, individuals will have an opportunity to learn about adaptive leadership and then work in groups to apply the principles they have learned to specific examples and cases they might face in their roles at home institutions. Leaders at all levels are encouraged to attend—department chairs, admissions, experiential education, assessment, admissions, and even committee chairs! Discussions will enable individuals to form action plans for incorporating new ideas and tools into their everyday role.

When does Leading Forward begin and end?

Leading Forward begins at 1:00 p.m. on Tuesday, November 1. Leading Forward concludes on Wednesday, November 2, with lunch at Noon.

When does registration open and close?

Leading Forward registration will open on Wednesday, September 7, and close on Wednesday, October 12.

What is the registration package?

Registration for Leading Forward is $349 per person for AACP members and $449 per person for non-members. Non-member registration includes AACP membership for the remainder of the 2016 calendar year. Registration includes beverage breaks during the meeting and lunch on Wednesday, November 2.

Where is Leading Forward being held?

All sessions will be held at Crowne Plaza Chicago Metro Downtown, Chicago, Ill., just 10.1 miles from Chicago Midway International Airport and 15.6 miles from O’Hare International Airport, in the west loop of Chicago. The hotel address is 733 West Madison, Chicago, Illinois, 60661. Guest Amenities:

What meals are provided as part of my registration?

Your registration includes beverage breaks during the meeting beginning on Tuesday, November 1 and lunch on Wednesday, November 2.

How is payment for Leading Forward handled?

Registration for Leading Forward is on a first-come, first-served basis. Credit card is the only form of payment accepted. AACP accepts Visa, MasterCard and American Express.

What is the Refund and Cancellation Policy?

A cancellation fee of $75.00 will be applied if cancelled before Friday, September 30. No refunds will be given after September 30. To request a meeting registration refund or cancellation, please contact Janet Mudd, Staff Accountant, at 703-739-2330 ext. 1023.

What are my transportation options when I arrive?

Airport Transportation

    AIRPORT EXPRESS SHUTTLE
  • (Go Airport Express: 773-247-1200)

  • Upon arrival the shuttle is located outside at the baggage claim area, or see ticket agent in baggage area. No reservation is needed into the city. Schedule with the concierge a pick up time back to the airport. Rates may vary.
    TAXI INFORMATION:
  • Taxi from O’Hare should cost about $40–$45.00 one way
  • Taxi from Midway should cost about $30–$35.00 one way
    Blue Line Train Information (O’Hare Airport)
  • Follow signs at airport to CTA, purchase a ticket from vending machine at entrance $2.25 each way. Board the train to the loop. This is your only choice. Exit at the UIC/Halsted Street stop. Walk North on Halsted about ½ mile (or taxi) to Hotel. We are located between Monroe and Madison streets, right past the Walgreens store.
    Orange Line Train Information (Midway Airport)
  • Follow signs to CTA, purchase a ticket from the vending machine at entrance $2.25 each way. Board the train to the loop. This is your only choice. Exit at Washington/Wells Street stop, and walk down the stairs. Walk 2 blocks south to Madison Street. Turn right (west) and walk about ¾ mile to Halsted Street. This will be the 1st street past the expressway. (Yes there is an overpass) You will see the hotel on your left. Guest may take the #20 Bus which picks up at the corner of Wells and Madison and drops off at the corner of Halsted and Madison.
    Washington/Wells Train Stop (.7 miles from hotel)
  • Brown, Orange, Purple, Pink line trains stop at this location. Walk 2 blocks south to Madison Street. Turn right (west) and walk about ¾ mile to Halsted Street. You will see the hotel on your left. Guest may take the #20 Bus which picks up at the corner of Wells and Madison and drops off at the corner of Halsted and Madison.
    Clinton/Green Train Stop (.5 miles from hotel)
  • Green and Pink line trains stop at this location. Walk West on Lake Street for ½ block to Jefferson. Turn left (south) and walk 3 blocks to Madison Street. Cross over Madison and turn right (West). Hotel will be located 2 blocks ahead on your left at the corner of Halsted and Madison
    Bus Stops
  • Bus #8 and #20 stops in front of the hotel at the corner of Halsted and Madison

Driving Directions

    From O’Hare Airport:
  • Take I-190 toward Chicago/Chicago Loop. I-190 will merge into I-90/I-94.
  • Stay on I-90/I-94 for approximately 15.5 miles.
  • Take Madison Street Exit.
  • Turn right onto Madison Street and then take a left onto Halsted Street.
  • Entrance to the hotel will be on your left hand side.
    From Midway Airport:
  • Head North on Cicero Avenue and then take I-55 North.
  • Take I-55 North to I-90/I-94 West (Dan Ryan) (Exit 292A).
  • Stay on I-90/I-94 until Madison Street Exit (Exit 51D)
  • Turn left onto Madison Street. Continue to the Halsted Street.
  • Take a left at the stop light. Entrance to the hotel will be on your left.
    Parking
  • Valet parking is available at the hotel for $43 per day.

What is the dress code?

Attire at Leading Forward is casual. Feel free to dress comfortably in khakis, jeans, polo shirts, and, most importantly, comfortable shoes. Please remember that meeting rooms can get chilly. You may want to bring clothing suitable if you decide to go out for a nice dinner offsite.

What is the weather like in Chicago, Ill., during the meeting dates?

The temperatures in Chicago average 56 degrees in November, with highs in the 50s lows in the 30s. There are occasional warmer days early in the month with temperatures up in the 60s.

Is there accessibility for persons with disabilities?

The hotel complies with the regulations set by the Americans with Disabilities Act (ADA), and assistive devices are available for persons with disabilities. Please contact Michelle Assa-Eley with any special arrangements you need.

Will CE Credit be available for the workshop?

Yes, Leading Forward will provide 6.5 contact hours of CE credit.
