New AACP/FMI Foundation Grant Opportunity

AACP and the Food Marketing Institute (FMI) Foundation have collaborated to provide grant funding for small conceptualization practice model activities involving pharmacists and nutrition professionals in food retail establishments. Up to five (5) grants with a maximum of $5,000 each (no overhead allowed) will be awarded in July 2013 to individual pharmacy school faculty who collaborate with a retail or independent food market to explore a practice model activity involving both pharmacy and nutrition. Application and other information is available on the AACP Web site. Reminder—Innovations in Teaching Competition

AACP invites applications from individual members for the 2013 Innovations in Teaching Competition. Applications take the form of course portfolios describing innovative approaches to the teaching/learning or assessment processes in a course, a component of a course or continuing professional education. Please visit the AACP Web site for more information and competition criteria. The deadline for receipt of portfolios at AACP is Friday, Jan. 25 at 5:00 p.m. EST.

Apply for the Academic Leadership Fellows Program

The Academic Leadership Fellows Program is designed to develop the nation's most promising pharmacy faculty for roles as future leaders in academic pharmacy and higher education. The program is in its ninth year with more than 260 Fellows representing over 100 pharmacy schools. Nomination and application information is available on the AACP Web site. Up to 30 Fellows will be selected to participate in 2013-14. The application deadline is Friday, Feb. 22. Contact: Bradford E. Miller.

2013 Institute to Focus on Beginning Pharmacy Educators

The 2013 AACP Institute, Teaching Essentials: Building a Foundation for Student Learning, Constructing Assessments, and Effective Teaching, has been designed to provide teams of beginning pharmacy educators, with an experienced faculty member as the team leader, a foundation and practical application of fundamental teaching principles to take back and share with colleagues at their home institutions. Teams of 3-5 will engage in sessions that focus on developing learner-centered sessions, constructing assessments, and evaluating the effectiveness of teaching. In 2013, AACP will support three Institutes. This includes the AACP Institute: Teaching Essentials, and two additional Interprofessional Education Collaborative (IPEC) Institutes. Reminder—2013 Award for Excellence in Assessment

The call for applications for the 2013 Award for Excellence in Pharm.D. Program-Level Assessment is now open and submission criteria are available on the AACP Web site. This award recognizes outstanding Doctor of Pharmacy assessment programs for their progress in developing and applying evidence of outcomes as part of the ongoing evaluation and improvement of pharmacy education. Submissions are due Friday, Feb. 8 at 5:00 p.m. EST.

Apply Today for the AACP Walmart Scholars Program

The 2013 AACP Walmart Scholars Program will provide $1,000 scholarships to up to 85 student-faculty pairs from AACP member institutions to attend the 2013 AACP Annual Meeting in Chicago, July 13-17. Want to attend the 2013 AACP Interim Meeting but didn’t have time to register online? Onsite registration will be available during the conference. The AACP Registration and Information Desk will be located in the Convention Center Atrium of the Rio Mar Beach Resort and open during the following times:

Interprofessional Education Resources Available Through IOM

The IOM Global Forum on Innovation in Health Professional Education, of which AACP is a founding member, has completed its workshop series on improving health by linking education to practice through interprofessional education. Presentations from both workshops and Webcast videos of the second workshop are available on the Global Forum's Web site. A summary of the workshop series will be available soon.

Call for Annual Meeting Research/Education Poster Abstracts

The Council of Sections invites AACP members to submit educational and research poster abstracts for the 2013 AACP Annual Meeting Poster Session on Sunday, July 14 and Monday, July 15 at the Hyatt Regency Chicago. If you are interested in submitting an abstract for the 2013 Annual Meeting, it must be submitted online via the AACP submission Web site by Wednesday, Feb. 20 at 11:59 p.m. PST. More information is available on the AACP Web site.

Call for Annual Meeting Roundtable Discussion Topics

Members are invited to submit topics for two, one-hour roundtable discussion sessions on July 14-17 during the 2013 AACP Annual Meeting. Roundtables are informal discussions of pressing current topics important to the Academy. They provide a venue to both share and learn from educators from other colleges and schools of pharmacy. More information can be found on the AACP Web site. Please submit your topic online by 11:59 p.m. EST on Wednesday, Feb. 27.

2012-13 New Investigator Award Winners Announced
