Save the Date: 2015 AACP Encore Institute, Oct. 26-28Due to popular demand, AACP is hosting an Encore Institute, Oct 26-28 at the Hyatt Dulles in Herndon, Va., focusing on ACPE Standards 2016. Teams of 3–5 faculty and preceptors from an institution will specifically discuss the standards concerning Interprofessional Education, Experiential Education and Co-curricular Activities. Teams will gain a greater understanding of these Standards, enabling them to formulate action plans for implementing program changes that will ensure compliance at their home institution. New Award Honors Scholarship of Teaching and LearningThe Distinguished Teaching Scholar Award is a new AACP award to recognize pharmacy faculty who are exemplary in the areas of scholarly teaching and the scholarship of teaching and learning. More information on this award, including eligibility criteria, process for applying (which includes submitting a Declaration of Intent which is due Thursday, Sept. 10), application elements and deadlines can be found on the AACP Web site.
Scholarship Opportunity for Dual Degree StudentsApplications are now being accepted for the Express Scripts Scholars Program. The program will provide four (4) $10,000 scholarships each year to enrolled dual degree students. The awarded students are given $2,500 per semester for four consecutive semesters, totaling $10,000 over two years. The application deadline is Friday, Aug. 28, at 5:00 p.m. EDT. 2015 Graduating Student and Faculty Survey DataNational summary reports for the 2015 Graduating Student and Faculty Surveys are now available on the AACP Web site. These surveys are part of AACP’s portfolio of Curriculum Quality Surveys, which are used by colleges and schools of pharmacy to assess curricula and provide data during self-study and accreditation reviews.
Consultants and Speakers Bureau: Application Deadline Extended to August 31* Share your expert knowledge and talents by applying to be part of AACP’s new Consultants and Speakers Bureau. This new member service connects experienced, talented professionals with organizations, universities and individuals who are searching for experts within academic pharmacy. Call for ACPE Board of Directors CandidatesThe AACP Board of Directors is seeking candidates for service on the Accreditation Council for Pharmacy Education (ACPE) Board of Directors. The appointee will observe both the January and June 2016 meetings of ACPE and will begin the six-year term in July 2016. CAB VRegistration is now open for Collaborating Across Borders V, Sept. 29-Oct. 2, in Roanoke, Va. Building upon the highly successful Collaborating Across Borders Conference series (I, II, III, and IV), CAB V is the fifth joint conference that links the United States and Canada around the key themes of interprofessional education and practice. CDCThe Community Preventive Services Task Force announced that it recommends interventions that engage community health workers to prevent cardiovascular disease. This finding supports interventions that engage community health workers for health education, outreach, enrollment, and information agents to increase self-reported health behaviors (e.g., physical activity, healthful eating habits, smoking cessation) in patients at increased risk for CVD. NIHThe NIH is developing a 5-year NIH-wide Strategic Plan with the goal of outlining a vision for biomedical research that ultimately extends healthy life and reduces illness and disability. The aim is to pursue crosscutting areas of research that span NIH’s 27 Institutes, Centers, and Offices. The NIH asks interested stakeholders to review the framework in a Request for Information and on the NIH Web site, and to provide feedback via the RFI submission site.
PACERApply Now for the Professionals Accelerating Clinical and Educational Redesign (PACER):The American Boards of Family Medicine, Internal Medicine and Pediatrics, along with the Accreditation Council for Graduate Medical Education and the Josiah Macy Jr. Foundation are seeking interprofessional teams of faculty from three primary care disciplines in medicine, as well as nursing, pharmacy, behavioral health or other health professions, for PACER. This three-year program will build high-functioning interprofessional faculty teams equipped to transform their clinical practices and educational programs to prepare trainees to work together in high performing patient-centered medical homes.
