Applications are now being accepted for the Medco Scholars Program. The program provides four scholarships each year to enrolled dual-degree students. The students receive $2,500 per semester for four consecutive semesters, totaling $10,000 over two years. The application deadline is Friday, July 27 at 5:00 p.m. EDT. Dr. Bruce Edgren, chair of the Department of Pharmacy Practice and Administration at the University of Saint Joseph School of Pharmacy, was named a 2012-2013 Robert Wood Johnson Foundation Health Policy Fellow. As one of eight health professionals selected for this fellowship, Edgren will spend a year in Washington, D.C., working in congressional offices with key responsibilities for health legislation and programs. APhA/NABPThe Center for Pharmacy Practice Accreditation, a joint partnership between the American Pharmacists Association (APhA) and the National Association of Boards of Pharmacy (NABP), is developing an accreditation program for community pharmacy practice. Draft community pharmacy practice standards will be available for a 6-week public comment period starting July 1 on the APhA Web site. An open forum to discuss the draft standards will be held on Tuesday, July 17, from 7:00 a.m. to 8:00 a.m. at the AACP Annual Meeting. As community practice is an important component of experiential training for student pharmacists, feedback from the academic sector is a critical component in the development process.
AIMMAACP is a founding organization of the Alliance for Integrated Medication Management (AIMM). Its goal is to help communities implement a framework for patient care that ensures people with chronic conditions use medications in ways that are appropriate, effective, safe and convenient to manage those conditions. PCORIThe Patient Centered Outcomes Research Institute (PCORI) issued its first round of funding announcements in support of the comparative clinical effectiveness research needs identified in the National Priorities for Research and Research Agenda. Grants will be awarded in four topic areas: assessment of prevention, diagnosis and treatment options; improving the healthcare system; better communicating the results of research; and addressing disparities.
