Many of our members were affected by Hurricane Sandy and AACP will remain alert to ways we can assist with recovery efforts. We also would like to thank the volunteers of the CAPE Revision Panel, Professional Affairs, and Research and Graduate Affairs committees that worked on behalf of members through the hurricane.
Due to the severe weather and the widespread power outages on the East Coast, PharmCAS will be extending the deadline to Thursday, Nov. 15. This will accommodate any applicants who may need more time to complete their applications and to send in their transcripts.
The deadline for Script Your Future Team Challenge Letters of Intent has been extended to Monday, Nov. 5. Last year, AACP member schools counseled more than 250,000 patients in 30 days about the importance of medication adherence. This year, schools are asked to partner with colleagues from health professions education in February 2013 for the Script Your Future Medication Adherence Team Challenge. An overview of the 2013 Challenge is available on the Team Challenge Community Web site. Completed letters should be emailed to Whitney Zatzkin by Nov 5.
AACP is accepting applications for APPE students who wish to complete a rotation and learn more about association work. For rotations occurring in fall 2013 and spring 2014, AACP will accept applications until Thursday, Nov. 15. For more information, visit the AACP Web site. Contact: appe@aacp.org.

The 2013 AACP Interim Meeting, Leadership for Institutional Effectiveness, will be held Feb. 9-12 in Rio Grande, Puerto Rico. AACP’s Pharmacy Practice Section will be holding its annual session at the 2012 ASHP Midyear Clinical Meeting in Las Vegas on Monday, Dec. 3, from 1:30 p.m. to 3:30 p.m. The session, The Art of Precepting: It’s Not as Easy as it Looks, will be led by Dr. Craig Cox from Texas Tech University Health Sciences Center. The session will focus on describing effective teaching strategies to engage students on pharmacy practice experiences and innovative ways to provide orientation and feedback to students.
As part of AACP’s continuing commitment to make academic careers more visible, we will again be exhibiting at national and regional meetings in the coming months. This cold and flu season, the Acetaminophen Awareness Coalition’s Know Your Dose Campaign is working with healthcare providers to help educate patients and consumers on the safe use of cold and flu medicines containing acetaminophen. The NPC and the National Health Council (NHC) are hosting a conference titled Myth of Average--Why Individual Patient Differences Matter on Nov. 30 at the Omni Shoreham hotel in Washington, D.C. The conference will focus on a series of panels to further understand the value and limitations of individualized care. Registration is free.
