Update: Hurricane Maria’s Impact on Member Schools

Many members have expressed concern about the status of operations at the University of Puerto Rico and the San Juan campus of Nova Southeastern University. Both schools of pharmacy have established funding sites to help offset costs for students or faculty to relocate to the mainland to continue their training. More information can be found on the UPR GoFundMe page and the NSU Cares page. Additionally, AACP has donated $5,000 to the Red Cross for hurricane disaster relief efforts.

Final Few Days to Register for Fall Institute

Bring your team to the 2017 Fall Institute, Strengthening Educational Scholarship, Nov. 13–15 at the Hyatt Regency Dulles in Herndon, Va., to develop, enhance and share educational research ideas to promote publishing scholarly activity. Registration closes Friday, Oct. 13.

Leading Effective Teams Workshop: Registration Extended

At Leading Forward: Leading Effective Teams, Oct. 31–Nov. 1 at the Renaissance Toledo Downtown Hotel, held in conjunction with the NABP District IV meeting, attendees will explore the steps to building effective teams and how to apply best principles and practices to his or her personal work as a team member or leader. Registration closes Monday, Oct. 16.

Call for 2018 Annual Meeting Special and Mini-Session Proposals

Members are invited to submit proposals for two types of sessions at Pharmacy Education 2018, the 2018 AACP Annual Meeting, July 21–25, in Boston: 90-minute special sessions PDF  on topics broadly applicable to contemporary pharmacy education, or 30-minute mini-sessions PDF  on innovations developed at one school. Submissions are due by 11:59 p.m. PT on Tuesday, Oct. 31.

Recognize a Master Preceptor

The AACP Master Preceptor Recognition Program seeks to nationally recognize preceptors, who are not full-time employees of a pharmacy school, for their commitment to excellence in experiential education and professional practice. Applications are due Friday, Jan. 12, 2018, at 5:00 p.m. EST.

Team Up to Promote Medication Adherence

An informational call for the upcoming 2018 Script Your Future Medication Adherence Team Challenge will be held at 12:00 p.m. ET on Thursday, Oct. 19. The Challenge, which encourages health professions students to help patients with medication adherence, will be held Jan. 15, 2018 to March 16, 2018, invites interprofessional student teams from schools of pharmacy, medicine, nursing and other health professions to interact with the community and engage in a dialogue about the importance of taking medications as directed for improved health.

New AJPE Publish-Ahead-of-Print Articles Released

The Journal has recently released new research articles for ahead of publication, including Improving Pharmacy Calculations Using an Instructional Design Model, Investing in the Future: Teaching Health Care Through Gamification, and Clinical Skills Training for Pharmacy Students.


Members have the opportunity to submit proposals for 10-minute microsessions at the 2018 INterim Meeting, Feb. 24–27, in Long Beach, Calif. Microsessions are an innovative way for meeting attendees to engage on different strategies and tactics that address important issues. Presenters will provide a brief, 5–7 minute overview of their programs related to a specific topic, followed by a 3–5 minute Q&A. Topics for the microsessions include building the applicant pipeline and building a brand for the profession of pharmacy. Submissions are due Thursday, Nov. 9, at 11:59 p.m. PT.

AACP is now accepting applications for the 2018 Innovations in Teaching Competition. A two-page letter of intent is due Thursday, Oct. 26. Applicants will receive feedback from reviewers prior to completing the entire portfolio, due Thursday, Feb. 15, 2018.

The National Institute on Drug Abuse has released a one-minute video highlighting its new web portal. The portal gives clinicians resources on opioids, drug addiction, research, training and more.
