Joseph Balthasar received a $1,827,130 grant from the National Cancer Institute to study “Catch and Release Immunotoxins: CAR-Bombs for Cancer.”

Robert Bies received a $276,699 grant from the Department of Defense to study “Understanding the Relative Contributions of and Critical Enzymes for the Three Pathways for Intracrine Metabolism of Testicular Androgens in Advanced Prostate Cancer.”

Jun Qu received a $150,000 grant from UCB Biopharma SPRL to study Novel methods for urine di-peptide biomarker. He also received a $75,00 grant from CH3 BioSystems LLC to study “STTR - Drug Discovery Platform For Protein Arginine Methyltransferase Inhibitors.”

Ying Xu received a $111,770 grant from Tetra Discovery Partners to study “SBIR - Phosphodiesterase-4B (PDE4B) Inhibitors for Psychiatric.”

Joanna Burdette received $18,000 as a subcontract principal investigator on an R15 grant from the NIH/NIGMS for the project, “Asymmetric synthesis of highly functionalized lactones and lactams using a chiral Bronsted acid.” She is collaborating with Kimberly Petersen from the University of North Carolina Greensboro. 

Edith Nutescu is consortium co-investigator and UIC site principal investigator on a five-year $9.5 million U54 grant from NIH/NIHMD for the project “African American Cardiovascular Pharmacogenetic Consortium (Account): Discovery and Translation.” The UIC component of the grant is funded $705,105 and headed by consortium investigator Minoli Perera (Northwestern University).

Yeuting Wang and co-investigators Greg Thatcher and Mary Ladu (Anatomy and Cell Biology) received $152,003 for an R42 STTR grant from NIH for their project “Nomethiazoles harnessing GABA and NO Mimetic Activity for Alzheimer's Therapy.”

Mike Cawley was appointed to the Clinicians Advisory Committee of the American Thoracic Society for the 2016-2017 year. He was also appointed to the American Society of Health-System Pharmacists Section of Clinical Specialists and Scientists Educational Steering Committee for another year. 

Yardlee Kauffman was elected to the secretary/treasurer position of the American College of Clinical Pharmacy Global Health PRN.


Daniel A. Hussar was named the 2017 Remington Honor Medal recipient by the American Pharmacists Association.

Cathy Poon was elected into the Fellowship of The College of Physicians of Philadelphia.
