Conference Highlights

AACP TechXPO & Product Theater: Attendees will have the opportunity to hear from cutting-edge companies in the TechXPO & Product Theater. Experts will present a featured product, service, research study or program information in a highly innovative format that is particularly relevant for education technology and any new product/services offered to academic pharmacy.

The 2017 Teachers SeminarLearning is NOT a Spectator Sport: Active Learning in Pharmacy Curricula, will explore the definition and development of active learning activities, their incorporation into all areas of pharmacy curricula, assessment and the scholarship of teaching and learning. Through a series of TED-like talks, small group discussion and other active learning exercises, participants will leave with new ideas and strategies for inclusion in their courses. Saturday, July 15, 8:30 a.m.–3:15 p.m.

Returning for a third year is the Joseph T. DiPiro Excellence in Publishing Workshop, which provides authors with an overview of the essentials of excellence when submitting manuscripts to AJPE, the scholarly, peer-reviewed publication of AACP. This year’s workshop will include new and improved handouts reflecting recent changes to the journal’s author instructions and article categories. It will also include an extended breakout session during which authors can discuss specific issues with the editors of AJPE. Saturday, July 15, 8:30 a.m.–11:30 a.m.

Today’s research funding landscape can be challenging, so give yourself the best chance for success with a high-caliber grant proposal. At the interactive workshop, Early Career Faculty Program: Strategies for Grant-Writing Success, faculty members with limited experience in research proposal development, preparation and submission will learn from those who have achieved grant funding success and those who are involved in funding decisions. Speakers from several disciplines share their tips and tricks for how to craft a strong proposal, and a program officer discusses what common mistakes to avoid when submitting a grant. Participants are highly encouraged to bring a copy of a proposal they are developing or ideas for proposals to develop in order to receive feedback and guidance during breakout sessions. Saturday, July 15, 1:00 p.m.–3:15 p.m.

AACP is excited to announce its first Walking Challenge using ChallengeRunner! The challenge begins on Sunday, July 16 and runs through Wednesday, July 19 at 11:30 a.m. CT. Prizes will be awarded to the top three steppers. The individual with the most steps will win a $100 VISA gift card! The top three steppers will be announced at the conclusion of the meeting on social media and on the meeting app.

A networking session for Department Chairs will give chairs an opportunity to speak to the current topics that are rewarding or challenging for them in their position during roundtable sessions. Tuesday, July 18, 2:00 p.m.–3:00 p.m.

The learning, networking and collaboration continue at the Tuesday General Sessionand culminate at the Closing Reception on Tuesday, July 18.
