Integrating the Scholarship of Teaching and Learning into Health Disparities and Cultural Competence Education

Hosted by the Health Disparities and Cultural Competence SIG.

Many faculty are finding ways to assist students in pursuing cultural humility or understanding health disparities. However, are you doing something innovative in the classroom, clinic, or co-curriculum, but you aren’t quite sure how best to turn it into a research project? This session will overview the basics of scholarship in teaching and learning with applications to the fields of health disparities and cultural competence (HDCC) education.

  1. Define the scholarship of teaching and learning (SOTL).
  2. Describe how to effectively conduct SOTL research projects in health disparities and cultural competence (HDCC) education.
  3. Create solutions to common barriers encountered in SOTL research.
