Professionalism in Pharmacy Education: Trends, Challenges, and Strategies

Student pharmacist professionalism has emerged as a pressing concern across colleges of pharmacy with preceptors and faculty increasingly reporting challenges following the COVID-19 pandemic and with shifts in generational expectations. This webinar will explore the evolving landscape of student professionalism and the association of early behaviors in the didactic curriculum and performance in experiential education. Presenters from multiple institutions will highlight approaches that aim to explore connections between early didactic behaviors and performance in experiential education, describe efforts to foster accountability, consistency, and culture change, and strengthen partnerships among faculty, preceptors, and student support teams.

Objectives:

  • Describe evolution of student pharmacist professionalism, including potential contributors and the implications for experiential education
  • Explain patterns in early professionalism concerns that can affect experiential performance and progression
  • Propose strategies to strengthen professionalism development across didactic and experiential settings
