New Opportunities 

  • RWJF Seeding Research, Networking, and Capacity Building at Minority-Serving Institutions 2026 Call for Proposals: Through this call, RWJF seeks to provide support to health equity research centers at MSIs to strengthen research infrastructure and capacity-building. Specific work that may be funded includes specific skill or methodology training; faculty release time; support for research assistants, advisors, and project staffing; mentoring, professional development and collaboration. Letters of intent are due October 01, 2026 3:00 p.m. ET. 
  • Biomedical Research Environment & Sponsored Programs Administration Development (BRE-SPAD) Program: BRE-SPAD supports resource-limited institutions with few to no biomedical research doctoral students to conduct research, enhance their research environments, and increase sponsored programs administration capacity. Applicants should propose plans in at least two of the following funding areas: Sponsored Programs Administration Development, Research Environment, Pilot Research Project Program. The next application due date is January 27, 2027. 
  • PhRMA Foundation 2027 Fellowships Value Assessment & Health Outcomes Research: These fellowships support early-career researchers who investigate challenges and potential solutions related to evaluating the delivery, safe use, effectiveness, and value (clinical, patient-centered, and economic) of medicines and other health care interventions. Proposals must include meaningful and authentic engagement with patients, caregivers, or clinicians. A recording of an informational session about the fellowships is available on the PhRMA Foundation website. The application deadline is October 30, 2026 at 12:00 p.m. ET.
    • Predoctoral Fellowships will provide up to $30,000 a year for 2 years. Applicants must be full-time, in-residence students at accredited U.S. universities who have completed all qualifying exams by the time of submission and who have at least one publication or poster presentation.
    • Postdoctoral Fellowships will provide up to $60,000 a year for 2 years. Applicants must be based at an accredited, doctoral degree-granting university in the U.S., hold a PhD, PharmD, MD or terminal research doctorate granted no earlier than January 1, 2024 and have at least two first author publications.
  • American Heart Association Career Development Award: This award supports healthcare and academic professionals early in their first professional appointment, to assure future success in the field of cardiovascular and/or cerebrovascular disease research. Proposals are due Tuesday, December 1, 2026
  • American Heart Association Innovative Project Award: This award funds highly innovative, high-impact research and promotes unexplored ideas; preliminary data is not required and not accepted as part of the proposal. The principal investigator must hold a PhD or equivalent degree or doctoral-level clinical degree, e.g., MD, DO, DVM, PharmD. Proposals are due Wednesday, December 9, 2026
  • NSF Engineering Biological and Biomedical Systems: Supported areas of inquiry include mechanistic studies of microbial population and cell behavior and of therapeutic cells and tissues; studies of the underlying engineering principles of biological systems and bioreactors; the creation of novel biosensing platforms and new optical imaging and modulation strategies; the design of biological sensing systems; and studies of tissue changes injury or repair. The NOFO does not support proposals with a main goal of drug design, drug delivery, or the development of animal models of disease. Full proposals to the solicitation are accepted anytime.

Explore NIH Funding: A search tool to filter funding opportunities on Grants.gov by NIH/HHS-specific categories like funding category, funding organization (e.g., NCI, NCATS) and keyword. NIH funding opportunities are now exclusively posted to Grants.gov. 

NIH Highlighted Topics: A resource to help researchers identify research priority areas for NIH Institutes, Centers, and Offices. Investigators interested in a topic should apply through an appropriate funding opportunity, such as the NIH R01 Parent Funding Announcement (clinical trial not allowed) or other broad NIH opportunities on Grants.gov. Highlighted topics may or may not have dedicated funding.

  • Dissemination and Implementation Research in Health (R01 Clinical Trial Optional): "The purpose of this Notice of Funding Opportunity (NOFO) is to support studies that will identify, develop, and/or test strategies for overcoming barriers to the adoption, adaptation, integration, sustainability, scale-up, and spread of evidence-based interventions, practices, programs, tools, treatments, guidelines, and policies (hereafter referred to as evidence-based interventions). Studies that promote equitable dissemination and implementation of evidence-based interventions among underrepresented communities are encouraged. Conversely, there is a benefit in understanding circumstances that create a need to stop or reduce (de-implement) the use of practices that are ineffective, unproven, low-value, or harmful. In addition, studies to advance dissemination and implementation research methods and measures are encouraged. Applications that focus on re-implementation of evidence-based health services that may be disrupted amidst disasters (e.g., pandemics, climate change) remain relevant."   • Accelerating Discovery through Partnered Research with All of Us to Analyze Participant Biospecimens (X01 Clinical Trial Not Allowed), PAR-27-069: This opportunity allows eligible investigators to access biospecimens from the All of Us Biobank through Partnered Research Studies and to return newly generated data to the All of Us Researcher Workbench. No funds are associated with awards from this announcement. You can learn more about the opportunity here. Application due dates: October 30, 2026 and March 1, 2027
  • The Medical Scientist Training Program (MSTP) T32: "The goal of the Medical Scientist Training Program (MSTP) is to develop a diverse pool of well-trained clinician-scientist leaders available to address the nation’s biomedical research needs. Specifically, this funding announcement provides support to eligible, domestic organizations to develop and implement effective, evidence-informed approaches to dual-degree training and mentoring that will keep pace with the rapid evolution of the biomedical research enterprise and lead to the completion of both a clinical degree (for example, M.D., D.O., D.V.M., D.D.S., Pharm.D., etc.) and a research doctorate degree (Ph.D.)."
  • NIH Loan Repayment Programs: The NIH Loan Repayment Programs (LRP) were established by Congress to recruit and retain health professionals in biomedical and behavioral research careers. The LRPs repay up to $50,000 annually of a researchers qualified educational debt "in return for a commitment to engage in NIH mission-relevant research." Research areas include clinical research, pediatric research, health disparities research, contraception and infertility research, clinical research for individuals from disadvantaged backgrounds, and research in emerging areas critical to human health. More information is available on the LRP application page. The LRP application period closed on December 4, 2025. Updated due date information will be posted when available.  

NSF Funding: The Foundation supports basic research and education in most fields, including biological, chemical, environmental, social, behavioral and economical sciences, collaborative research between universities and industry, and graduate and postdoctoral fellowships.

CDC Funding: Supports research to keep Americans safe and healthy both domestically and abroad.

USDA NIFA Grants: Supports research and fellowships on nutrition and health, education, environment, biotechnology and genomics, economics and community development.

AHRQ Funding & Grants: Supports research to improve the quality, safety, efficiency, and effectiveness of healthcare for all Americans. AHRQ currently does not have any open funding opportunities. 

DOD Grants: The Department of Defense (DOD) Office of Congressionally Directed Medical Research Programs (CDMRP) supports biomedical research across the development pipeline from basic to clinical through annual funding opportunities.
