Pharmacy Academia Implementation Science (PAIS) Community
The PAIS Community was created because dissemination and implementation (D&I) science is critical to the future of the pharmacy profession. Implementation science is an underappreciated opportunity in academic pharmacy and can be a powerful tool to advance practice transformation within pharmacy. The principles of dissemination and implementation science have the potential to improve healthcare effectiveness, efficiency, quality, and safety.
Vision
The pharmacy academy supports faculty engaged in D&I science to narrow the research to practice gap and help individuals live better, healthier lives while improving public health.
Mission
Inspire the pharmacy academy to cultivate and promote the impact of D&I science on pharmacy practice and pharmaceutical sciences.
PAIS Community Database
There is a growing need for a centralized database of D&I scientists in pharmacy to address the current gaps in knowledge sharing and collaboration within the field. The creation of a centralized database would help to foster increased collaboration between D&I scientists in the Pharmacy Academy, ultimately leading to more research partnerships and mentorship opportunities. This would also help define the audience's needs in terms of programming, training, and resources to inform the future programming and resource creation in this area. Increased knowledge of D&I science would also lead to the growth of distinguished D&I researchers within the pharmacy field. Such efforts would aid the dissemination and sustainability of evidence-based practices to optimize patient care and delivery.
Purpose
To identify and connect D&I scientists within the Pharmacy Academy, fostering collaboration and guiding the development of training and resources that enhance D&I science in pharmacy.
Goals
- Gather key information from D&I scientists, including contact details and research focus areas.
- Facilitate networking opportunities between D&I scientists in the Pharmacy Academy and between those D&I scientists and other collaborators.
- Develop programming, training, and resources informed by the needs and insights of database members.

Goals/Objectives (updated March 2026)
By June 2026, the PAIS Community will:
Goal 1: Create D&I science infrastructure and resources within AACP
- Objective 1: AACP Staff create the PAIS Leadership Council made up of D&I scientists in the pharmacy academy to steer the work of the PAIS Community.
- Objective 2: PAIS Community and AACP Staff establish a database of D&I scientists in the pharmacy academy to allow collaborators to be identified more easily.
Goal 2: Enhance professional recognition of D&I scientists across the pharmacy academy and within colleges/schools of pharmacy
- Objective 1: PAIS Community with support of AACP Staff explore the potential impact of an environmental scan for facilitators and barriers to promotion/tenure (P/T) for D&I scientists in the pharmacy academy.
- Objective 2: PAIS Community with support of AACP Staff create an AACP award recognizing D&I research in the Pharmacy Academy.
Goal 3: Establish D&I training as a priority in the pharmacy academy
- Objective 1: PAIS Community and AACP Staff support creation of new AACP implementation science programming for pharmacy academicians.
- Objective 2: PAIS Community and AACP Staff create a D&I science presence at AACP Annual Meeting through hosting convenings and/or programming.
Goal 4: Facilitate D&I research collaborations
- Objective 1: AACP Staff convene D&I scientists through the PAIS Community to foster networking, engagement, and sustainment of the community.
- Objective 2: PAIS Community and AAPC Staff explore potential funders for implementation science research in the pharmacy academia.
