Hosted by the Health Care Ethics SIG.

This webinar will provide a foundational overview of patient confidentiality including how it differs from privacy and its connection to the pharmacist code of ethics. Patient confidentiality will then be discussed in the context of three emerging health care phenomena – medications and devices with embedded digital sensors, genetic testing, and population health initiatives based on big data.

Objectives:

  1. Explain the role of patient confidentiality in ethical pharmacy practice.
  2. Recognize patient confidentiality concerns with embedded digital sensors in medications and devices, genetic testing, and use of big data for population health initiatives.
  3. Use ethical principles to inform decision-making in cases involving patient confidentiality.'
