June 20, 2024
3:00 p.m.–4:00 p.m. ET
Meeting attendees gathered in a spacious sunlit hall.

Hosted by the Technology in Pharmacy Education and Practice SIG

This webinar aims to discuss current applications of digital health and how to begin to incorporate digital health exploration into pharmacy education. Differences between digital health, digital medicine and digital therapeutics will be reviewed. In addition, the application of these solutions in various specialties will be discussed, including impact on clinical outcomes. The inclusion of digital health in the new COEPA outcomes will be highlighted, and how it can influence pharmacy education.

The second half of this webinar will provide a roadmap for educators who seek to introduce digital health concepts into their pharmacy skills-based curricula. It will offer insights into the structure, methodology, and outcomes of a pharmacotherapy lab focused on digital health with second-year pharmacy students. The session will detail digital health exploration stations, including the PDMP, MyFitnessPal, continuous glucose monitoring software, ChatGPT, and mHealth applications. Participants will gain insights into the pedagogical approach of the station-based lab and will include resources used to plan the lab and lessons learned after completion.

Objectives:

  • Describe different types of digital health applications
  • Outline the impact of digital therapeutics on patient care, and concepts that can be integrated in pharmacy education.
  • Discuss rationale, structure, and outcomes from a digital health exploration lab for pharmacy students.
  • Demonstrate elements of a digital health lab to encourage the audience to develop their own educational activities.
