Yoga 101- Learn, Grow, Connect and Flow

Yoga is the union of mind and body that involves a combination of physical activity and an internal mindful training. It is classified by the National Institutes of Health as a form of Complementary and Alternative Medicine. The practice of yoga may reduce levels of anxiety, depression and inflammatory markers. In addition, yoga practice has been evidenced to improve sleep quality and duration. Many people practice yoga to improve flexibility, balance, and strength-building benefits. This session will take participants through an experiential journey through the foundations, principles and practices of yoga to support personal growth and groundedness. 

Objectives

  1. Describe ancient yoga philosophy and life application for personal development.
  2. Discuss benefits and barriers to practicing yoga and mindfulness.
  3. Experience yoga practices that can be broadly adopted for personal and professional integration at home institutions.
