The special committee on Substance Abuse and Pharmacy Education convened in 2010–2011 and was charged to examine and recommend how pharmacy colleges should prepare all student pharmacists to appropriately assist those who are addicted or affected by others' addiction, and help support addiction recovery with an emphasis on public safety. The Committee was directed to include recommendations on core curricular content and delivery, both for student pharmacists and continuing education for pharmacists, and on prevention and assistance processes within our colleges.
The United States Pharmacopeial Convention (USP) partnered with AACP and other national associations in 2015 to create the Careers Beyond the Pharmacy Counter Webinar Series. This series provides information on pharmacist careers that are not considered "traditional" pharmacy practice. The online modules are presented by pharmacists working in alternative career settings. Careers in the U.S. Government, in the Pharmaceutical Industry, Consumer Health Informatics, Global Pharmacy, and Specialty Pharmacy are currently available in the series.
The American Association of Colleges of Pharmacy (AACP) is deeply committed to collaborating with other health profession organizations and stakeholders to promote positive well-being and resilience among health care providers, educators, and students. AACP recognizes that stress and anxiety can have devastating consequences on mental health, student learning, patient care, and the community at large.
Packing information and insight into 10-minute segments, microsessions are an innovative way for meeting attendees to engage on different strategies and tactics that address important issues.
The next Annual Meeting of the American Association of Colleges of Pharmacy (AACP) will be held in July, 2020, in Long Beach, California. The Annual Meeting provides opportunities for Academy members to present and network during plenary sessions, special, mini, and micro-sessions, topical roundtables, poster presentations and in the exhibit hall. AACP members are invited to submit proposals for Mini-Sessions (30-minutes, maximum 2 speakers) on topics broadly applicable to contemporary pharmacy education.
These Categories and Tags were developed by AACP staff members, with the assistance of volunteer members of the AACP Substance Use Disorder Special Interest Group, and assigned to activities being conducted by schools and colleges of pharmacy to address the current opioid overdose crisis.
